Teju Somorin, popularly known as “TEJUTAX” is the first and the only female Professor of Taxation in Nigeria. She is privileged to have headed three notable Tax Professional Bodies as President, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the first female President, West African Union of Tax Institutes and led AATI. Teju, the first female Dean of the College of Post Graduate Studies, is currently the Dean of the College of Arts, Social and Management Sciences and a member of the Governing Council of Caleb University. Somorin has in depth experience in Nigerian Tax System spanning over 45 years having worked in the Federal Inland Revenue Service for 34 years, and retired as a Coordinating Director (first female). In 1982, she became the first Nigerian to obtain MTAX Degree, and in 1989, she came third for her essay in a tax competition, of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators.
In 2019, Teju was appointed as the only female member of Tax Advisory Committee, consistently participating to amendments to Nigerian Tax Laws, thus blending academics with professionalism.
As a prolific writer, she has 151 publications in Taxation, singly authored, in addition to “TEJUTAX, Reference Book….” a well sought after tax encyclopedia. In 2016, she became a Fiscal Commissioner and eventually, a Co-Chair of the Fiscal Policy Roundtable of the NESG. One of Somorin’ 45 awards is the Nkrumah Africa Leadership as “Africa’s Most Outstanding Tax Administrator”.
